What is WhiteHat Jr.?
Founded in 2018, WhiteHat Jr 'helps' kids from age 6 to 18 years to build commercial-ready games, animations, and apps online using the fundamentals of coding. It offers four levels of courses – Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Professional – for students in grades 1-12.
Recently, within 18 months of its inception, the company was acquired by leading ed-tech firm BYJU'S in a deal worth $300 million.
Is it necessary?
Recently, WhiteHat's aired an ad that shows a little one who has developed his own app at a young age by learning to code on the WhiteHat Jr. platform, while investors rushing in to make an investment. Now, those who are into the profession know that it is a tough task to learn to code and it is too early to start for kids.
How can a company target kids stick to the screen at the age where they should be playing outside? Like seriously ? the company targeting even 6-year-old kids!!
No WhiteHat, kids do not need to spend more time on the screen, and to parents, no investor is going to come to your home for investment. Besides, you will end up 'bothering' your relatives by saying, "Hamarey nonney bachey nay ek app banayi hai, download karo na apney phone may please" just like an another 'cute baby contest'.
Advice to parents
Your 6-year-old kid doesn't need coding lessons to succeed in life. They need to go out and play real sports with real kids not with bots on the screen.
Coding is no syntax, it has more to do with a problem solving, and one learns it in the real world solving day to day problems. A kid will be better off he learns and understands respect, honesty, integrity, and other basic human skills.
